Fairs and Events in Gironde

EVENT CALENDAR

Bordeaux and the Gironde are vibrant and gather many cultural, festive, gourmand, sports events, fairs and shows, without counting the many exhibitions in the museums, galleries or cultural centres. Many events occur at the same time each year. Below is a non-exhaustive list:

• Andernos-Les-Bains, Fête de l’Huitre (Oyster Fair), second half of July
• Arcachon, Plage aux Ecrivains (Writers and authors meeting on the beach), end of April-beginning of May; the Tchanquetas and the 18 hours of Arcachon (Sailing event), end of June/beginning of July; Fêtes de la Mer (Sea Celebrations), around 15th August.
• Bazas, Fête du Bœuf de Bazas (Bazas Beef Festival), in February; Festival du Livre (Book Festival) in June.
• Bègles, Fête de la Morue (Cod Fair), end of May/beginning of June. 
• Blaye, Printemps des Vins (The Spring of Wines), in April; Jumping international around 14th July; Festival de Theatre (Theatre Festival), last week of August.
• Bordeaux, Escale du Livre (The Book Fair), in April; Foire International de Bordeaux (International Festival of Bordeaux), in May, Bordeaux Fête Le Vin (Bordeaux celebrates its wine), end of June every two years on pair years to be alternated with Bordeaux fête le fleuve (Bordeaux celebrates its river); The Epicuriales (Gastronomy Festival), the second half of June; Vinexpo every two years to be alternated with Vinitech, mid-June. 
• Bourg-en-Gironde, 100 Châteaux vous ouvrent leurs portes (One Hundred Castles open their Doors), 2nd weekend of May. 
• Cadillac, Portes ouvertes en Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux (Open doors in Cadillac, Côtes de Bordeaux), Pentecost weekend.
• Castillon-la-Bataille, Fête de la Lamproie (Lamprey Festival), end of April in the commune of Sainte-Terre; Son et lumière Bataille de Castillon (The Castillon Battle, Sound and Light Show), mid-July, mid-August, at 22h30.

• Gujan Mestras, Larrostrea (Sailing Festival), 2nd weekend of July.

• Saint Emilion, Portes Ouvertes dans les Châteaux (Castles Open doors), week-end of the 1st of May; La Jurade (Celebration of wine and heritage of its medieval city), 3rd Sunday of June (or Saturday at the same time as Vinexpo) the 3rd Sunday of September, Ban des Vendanges (Harvest Festival); Saint-Emilion Jazz Festival, mid-July.
• Saint-Macaire, Itinérances Médiévales en Vallée du Dropt (Dropt Valley Medieval Fair), weekend before last in August. 
• Soulac, Soulac 1900, 1st weekend of June.
• Villandraut, in the castle, Fête des Fous (Fair of the Buffoons), every 14th July; Festival Musical d’Uzeste, around 15th August.
