End of Works, Make Way for New Features: The TBM Network is Transforming for the Future

After a summer marked by major modernization work on strategic sites such as the Pont de Pierre and the Porte de Bourgogne, the Bordeaux metropolitan area's public transport network is emerging from its transformation. Starting November 7, 2025, the TBM network will deploy an impressive fleet of new 100% electric buses on line G. On December 6, 2025, it will also inaugurate its new tram lines E and F, as well as a new express bus line, the H, which connects the two banks of the Garonne River.

These developments embody the commitment of Bordeaux and its municipalities to sustainable and more efficient mobility.

The New Tram Lines E and F Change the Map

The extension of the tram network is a direct consequence of the improvements made this summer and provides unprecedented coverage for users.

The arrival of Line E (Blanquefort – Floirac Dravemont) creates a vital new North-South/East axis. It connects employment and residential areas, offering a direct alternative to traveling through the city center. In particular, it facilitates service to the right bank of the Garonne and access to the Blanquefort area.

For its part, Line F (Mérignac Airport – Bègles Station) represents a major change for travelers. This line now directly connects Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport to Bègles Station, eliminating the need for a combination of tram and bus. This offers considerable time savings and is the simplest solution for journeys between these two crucial transport hubs.

These new connections will relieve and reorganize the most heavily used sections of the historic A, C and D lines. Users can therefore expect a significant improvement in frequency and an increase in the overall capacity of the network thanks to the commissioning of the new trains.

The Silent Revolution: The Deployment of 100% Electric Buses

Alongside the tramway, the transition to green energy is accelerating on the bus network. A fleet of 100% electric buses is being deployed on several high-traffic routes that cross the heart of Bordeaux and the municipalities of the Gironde.

This commitment is a major step for the city: it translates into a significant reduction in noise pollution and an improvement in air quality within the metropolitan area. The integration of these buses was made possible thanks to the installation of new smart charging hubs in the city, guaranteeing the reliability of the service and making Bordeaux a pioneering city in sustainable mobility in France.

The merger of the Bordeaux lines

In addition to electrification and new tram lines, the Gironde bus network is undergoing a complete restructuring to optimize connections and overall performance.

In order to offer a more direct and complementary transport solution to the express bus G, the former Liane 1 and Liane 6 lines will merge from December 6, 2025. This new combined route will then efficiently connect the Gambetta Mériadeck district to the Saint-Jean station and will also ensure a direct connection between the Palais de Justice and Floirac by crossing the new Simone Veil bridge.

By getting off at the Palais de Justice station, you are a stone's throw from the Musée d'Aquitaine, the Tour Pey-Berland and the Cathédrale Saint-André.

Meanwhile, the Liane 4 bus line has been reinstated. It now operates between Pessac Cap de Bos and Gambetta Mériadeck, improving service to this part of the metropolitan area. Finally, in the interest of optimization and speed, line 86 will be permanently discontinued, its services being taken over and absorbed by the efficient H express bus service.
