Facing the ocean, at Lacanau Océan, the Etang de Cousseau National Nature Reserve is nestled between Lac d'Hourtin and Etang de Lacanau. This series of bodies of water is part of a wetland classified for the protection of its specific flora and fauna. If the Étang de Cousseau is the smallest of the three, it is also the wildest and the most preserved. You can contemplate magnificent carnivorous plants, the Drosera. If you are discreet, you may surprise the European otter or the Cistude turtle , and nesting or migrating birds, depending on the season.
You can visit it during a hike of just under 8 km, independently and for free. If you want to go further, we recommend that you book a guided tour with the Médoc Atlantique Tourist Office.
