Réserve naturelle nationale de l'étang de Cousseau Nature Reserve in Lacanau

  • English
    • Facing the ocean, at Lacanau Océan, the Etang de Cousseau National Nature Reserve is nestled between Lac d'Hourtin and Etang de Lacanau. This series of bodies of water is part of a wetland classified for the protection of its specific flora and fauna. If the Étang de Cousseau is the smallest of the three, it is also the wildest and the most preserved. You can contemplate magnificent carnivorous plants, the Drosera. If you are discreet, you may surprise the European otter or the Cistude turtle , and nesting or migrating birds, depending on the season.
You can visit it during a hike of just under 8 km, independently and for free. If you want to go further, we recommend that you book a guided tour with the Médoc Atlantique Tourist Office.

A very nice walk for nature lovers. Bring good shoes because there is a lot of walking to do the tour. Bicycle and car parking nearby (500m) To do if you are in the area.

Couple's walk in September, perfect time: very calm and without mosquitoes. Ideal facilities for walking, developed cycle paths and 2 magnificent observation towers: remember to take binoculars to enjoy the biodiversity.

It’s a shame that the path on foot is so long. Too bad birds are so rare. Good observation towers, but too few animals visible during the day. Long views are a must otherwise you won't really see anything interesting. Leave your cameras at home unless equipped with a 300 and above.

If you don't like nature or walking then this isn't the place for! The nature reserve is beautiful and so calm. Once inside there's a viewing platform with a warden ready to help ID any birds you...
