A Nightmarish Night – Far From 4-Star Standards Passing through Bordeaux for one night, my stay at the Novotel Mérignac was a huge disappointment. With an outside temperature of 38°C, the air conditioning in the room simply wasn't working (stuck with an internal temperature reading of 27-28°C). It was impossible to get to sleep. We tried opening the window to air out the room, but it opened directly onto the kitchen extractor fan: an unbearable smell of frying filled the room, forcing us to close everything again. Yet, air conditioning is explicitly advertised as included in the booking. For an establishment of this standard, the bedding clearly needs improvement, as do the overall cleanliness and amenities: Regarding the room: A Nespresso machine and tea are provided (a nice touch), but there were absolutely no coffee capsules. The coffee maker was therefore completely useless. There was also trash lying around on the floor near the bed. In the bathroom: Rust/mold had accumulated around the seals of the protective glass, and the provided toothbrush holder was frankly filthy. In the toilet: Not even a toilet brush was provided, which is the bare minimum. Paying for a 4-star service and finding yourself without air conditioning in the middle of a heatwave, with such blatant hygiene issues, is unacceptable. I absolutely do not recommend this hotel.
