A weekend in Gironde

Saint-Émilion
A weekend in Gironde

You only have 2 or even 3 days? Would you like to get the best out of your experience in Gironde, depending on who you are and with whom you travel? Here are some ideas, not exhaustive, for the organization of a weekend in Gironde. As a couple, in Bordeaux, by bike, by the sea, what do you prefer?

Romantic weekend in Gironde

Saint-Emilion is a destination conducive to a fantastic romantic weekend. Small picturesque medieval village, you will fall in love with each of its alleys. Steep because built on a limestone promontory 200m high, it offers a magnificent view of the surrounding countryside. Located only 45 minutes from Bordeaux, by staying there you do not exclude the possibility of granting a day to the wine capital. Also take the opportunity to visit a wine chateau, many of them offer guided tours and tastings, as well as bottle purchases at preferential rates. But Saint-Emilion is also home to many hidden riches... such as the catacombs and the Hermitage cave, the monolithic church, the Roy tower and the serene Cordeliers cloister. Don't forget to taste macaroons, which are the gastronomic specialty of the village (in addition to wine, of course!).

Take advantage of your stopover in Saint-Emilion to explore the pretty cities of Entre-deux-mers: Créon, Sauve-Majeure, Targon, Sauveterre-de-Guyenne, Branne, Cadillac, La Réole, Monségur… Here is a map tourist to download.

Don't hesitate to travel a few kilometres away to treat yourself! In the pretty village of Vayres on the banks of the Dordogne, the Lune restaurant welcomes you in a privileged setting, just two minutes from the Port of Saint-Pardon, considered to be the best spot to admire the Mascaret. Nestling in an old inn with character, it offers cosy, warm spaces with 3 rooms arranged in a row. The first is spacious, with its bar and table d'hôte, the second opens onto the wine cellar with an intimate table for 4, while the third is a cosy room with wood flooring and the remains of a fireplace. Lune is a real invitation to travel, with a few secrets up its sleeve, like the plant-filled patio planted with giant bamboo, citrus trees and ferns.

Settle into spaces designed for comfort and relaxation. The benches and armchairs are soft, the linen napkins and leather bows are beautifully laid out on the large, widely-spaced tables. The journey continues with the menu, which treats your taste buds to a variety of dishes made with local, ultra-sourced produce. At lunch, you can choose between à la carte dishes and the menu of the day, which offers a choice of 2 starters, 2 main courses and 2 desserts. For dinner, there's a Brasero evening from Wednesday to Friday, while on Saturday evenings there's a 4- or 6-course 'tasting' menu. Gault & Millau, the Michelin Guide and Fooding all agree that Restaurant Lune is a unique address like few others.
