Located at the entrance to the Arcachon Bay, the Dune du Pilat proudly dominates this Gironde landscape from a height of 110 meters. It is one of the must-see places in Gironde when you come to stay near Arcachon.

Access and Parking at the Dune du Pilat

Parking is paid, and prices vary depending on how long you spend at the dune. Payment is by credit card only, but it is possible to reach the dune by bike or bus. In the latter two cases, you do not have to pay for parking.

Activities and Entertainment at the Dune du Pilat: What to Do There?

View of the Dune of Pilat

I walk towards the dune and head towards the reception area. I have all the information I need to visit the site and about the activities on offer:

  • Guided tours ;
  • Sunset walk ;
  • Workshops for children ;
  • Family workshops ;
  • Guided hikes...

In short, there is no shortage of activities at the Dune du Pilat and it’s fantastic!

Gourmet and Shopping Break

Then, head to the one and only alleyway made up of restaurants and souvenir shops on either side. The restaurants, sometimes snack bars, offer traditional menus with something to eat on the go: steak and fries, hamburgers, iced couples, rib steaks, salads... It's very practical when you spend the day enjoying the dune. Everyone can eat or have a little treat at snack time.

The souvenir shops, for their part, offer several diverse products and vary from beach items (caps, pareos, towels) to figurines, postcards, paintings, photographs, humorous t-shirts... It's a small town in the heart of a unique natural space!

Climbing the Dune of Pilat

Let's go for the climb of this immense sandcastle!

I recommend taking the stairs to the top. It's less physically demanding than having your feet in the sand.

From the first steps, I know that I am going to have a very beautiful spectacle and a breathtaking view of the Arcachon Bay. The first houses appear, then suddenly, the ocean. It is with a certain pride that I arrive at the top and let myself fall with all my weight on the sand in order to enjoy the beauty of this exceptional environment.

Once at the top, the sea air fills my lungs, wildlife flies around me, and I am captivated by this immense pile of sand that is slowly eating away at the coast. Everything is natural, nothing is artificial, and that's the most important thing: nature created it, and it will survive us!

I can spend hours contemplating the landscape, nothing makes me want to go back down. It's a pleasure to walk there and stop when you feel like it. Everyone marvels at the Dune of Pilat. It's an environment that appeals to everyone: the little ones have fun running up and down the dune, the adults walk or rest, and nature lovers coexist with the fauna and flora specific to the dune.
