Place des Grands Hommes Historic Monuments in Bordeaux

Place des Grands Hommes is a focal point of Bordeaux's "Golden Triangle", a neighborhood renowned for its elegance and 18th-century neoclassical architecture. Its name, given since the French Revolution, pays homage to the six great Enlightenment philosophers who inspired the adjacent streets (Montesquieu, Rousseau, Voltaire, etc.).

At the heart of this iconic square stands the Marché des Grands Hommes, a circular building that has had several lives. Originally a market hall in the 18th century, it has been rebuilt and modernized several times, notably after fires, to become a three-level shopping center.
