Château Ducal de Cadillac Cadillac Castle: a historic jewel on the banks of the Garonne

A meteoric rise to prominence in Gascony and a precursor to the Musketeers, the Duke of Épernon had this castle built during the reigns of Henry IV and Louis XIII. Lavish and military, his palace worthy of kings still boasts monumental fireplaces, tapestries, and painted ceilings, but became a women's prison in the 19th century. An extraordinary destiny.
