A Franco-Australian wine bar in Bordeaux
A duo of oenophile explorers
A great adventure that began a few years ago when Albane left Bordeaux to go to Australia to perfect his background in viticulture. She cut her teeth in local estates and moved to Melbourne where she met Aaron. A meeting that sounds obvious for these two wine and gastronomy enthusiasts. They then work in catering in renowned establishments, she sommelier and he manager. But their thirst for learning makes them want to cross borders to explore other vineyards. They travel to South Africa, Canada and California, before finally deciding to land in Bordeaux.
It won't take long for their enthusiasm for dining to win them over again. They take over the company together and, little by little, shape it in their image. They therefore renamed it YARRA, in homage to the river that crosses Melbourne, a nod to the Garonne in the heart of Bordeaux and to this city dear to their hearts.
A warm setting with a touch of modernity
A young, dynamic and welcoming team. The impressive industrial bar sets the tone, softened by the stone walls giving off a cozy atmosphere and the soft wooden furniture. You can choose, according to your desires, to settle down on a comfortable bench seat in the back, to enjoy the green patio or to admire the shelves overflowing with wine nuggets.
There is no wine list here! It is Albane who will guide you according to your preferences in front of their impressive library of more than 200 wine references. There is something for everyone, the most famous French regions are there, as well as little-known appellations that will certainly surprise your taste buds. Not to mention an interesting selection of foreign wines, all over Europe to South Africa via Australia of course.
Convenient and tasty meals
In the plate, it is also impossible not to find what you are looking for. It is Aaron who is behind the stove and has thought up an epicurean menu that evolves with the seasons and his creativity. So find the traditional cheese and charcuterie boards, pâtés that smell good of the terroir, as well as more elaborate dishes, and for the most part to share: antipastis and truffled mortadella, mini burgers with pulled pork, creamy hummus and its assortment of raw vegetables. , patatas bravas and aioli, duck tartare with fresh herbs, creamy feta with trout roe… Cover the table with generous plates, skewer, crunch and savor.
On weekends, the Anglo-Saxon touch is even more present with a relaxed brunch. The classic avocado toast and its scrambled eggs with hollandaise sauce are in the game. The mimosa, cocktail based on sparkling wine and orange juice, too. On the Australian side, the most curious can try the toast spread with vegemite (salty spread eaten in Australia).
Prices: count between 19€ and 190€ for the wines and between 7€ and 20€ per plate.
Suitable for all palates and budgets.
