The Citadel of Blaye and the Verrou de l'Estuaire have been inscribed on the prestigious list of World Heritage Sites since 7 July 2008. Inclusion on this list confers on each of the sites listed a universal and exceptional value. Each fortified site, including the Citadel of Blaye within the Verrou de l'Estuaire, presents a facet of Vauban's work, complementary to the others.
