    •  Installed in the building of the town hall built in the 15th century and enlarged at the beginning of the 20th century, the museum was created in 1818 on will of the Duke Élie Decazes (1780-1860), then Minister of the Interior of King Louis XVIII. Originally from the region since he was born in Saint-Martin-de-Laye, the Duke Decazes had major works from the state collections, kept at the Louvre museum, sent to Libourne. The fund was then considerably enriched by purchases, donations and legacies, as well as by the deposit, in 1952, of sixty works from the city of Creon, from the legacy of Antoine-Victor Bertal ( Creon, 1817 - Nice, 1895).

Today we can appreciate works retracing the history of the art of the 14th century in the twentieth century: Siennese school and Florentine of the 14th and 15th centuries, school of the north of the 16th and 17th centuries (Cranach the Ancien, Rubens), Renaissance Italian, Caravagesque school with a major work by Bartolomeo Manfredi (1582-1622), works of the 18th century (Jean-Baptiste Santerre, Lagrenée, Falconet, Pick), works of the 19th century academic (Benjamin de Rolland, Pierre-Nolas Bergeret, Pierre -Roch vigneron) or Impressionist (Henry Moret), works from the beginning of the 20th century (Rodin, Dufy, Foujita, Kisling).

The museum also presents works by Libournais artists such as René Princeteau (1844-1914), friend and master of Toulouse-Lautrec, Théophile Lacaze (1799-1846), romantic painter influenced by Delacroix, and Alphonse Giboin (1828-1921) , creator of sumptuous enameled glasses. The museum finally retains in its reserves very beautiful collections of graphic and ethnographic arts, which are the subject of regular clashes. Two thousand five hundred photographic plates produced by the Libournais photographer Henry Guillier (1847-1912) complete this rich fund of 4,500 works.

Absolutely great little museum. Only two rooms but in a very nice historic building. The collection is of great variety and there are some really good pieces. Friendly staff. The best part, this should cost €15,00 but it’s free!

Modest museum at first glance, but with a beautiful collection. Free admission. Beautiful classical works (Manfredi, Cignani, Vouet, Rubens/Jordaens, Falconet/Pajou...) as well as local artists worthily represented (Delorme, Domergue, Despujols, Princeteau...). A discreet but present and intelligent emphasis is placed on the artistic representation of women/by women
