    • Le Tertre in Saint-Émilion, a gourmet restaurant with an intimate setting

You immediately feel at ease when you walk through the restaurant's doors to be greeted by Catherine, a most charming host who welcomes you with pleasure and always with a smile. Located in Saint-Émilion, a short walk from Libourne, Le Tertre restaurant is a must-visit gourmet destination in the region, where it's best to make a reservation. Enjoy!

Le Tertre in Saint-Émilion, cuisine with a local flavor

The menu is short but of quality in this establishment which advocates freshness and authenticity . Behind the stoves, chef Julien Elles, accompanied by his brigade, gives free rein to his imagination and creativity to offer you gourmet, light and refined dishes . More than a chef, he is a true actor of his region , committed and passionate, happy to make you taste his heartfelt cuisine at lunch as at dinner. Color, taste, texture, presentation… Everything is carefully worked in the kitchen to present you with perfectly seasoned balanced dishes. The menu of the moment is offered according to the season, but also according to the producers and suppliers with whom the chef creates a very special bond. Through his cuisine, Julien Elles tells the story of his land and its products , revealing to you all the flavors of the region. Let your taste buds appreciate the delicacy of beautifully presented dishes, an elegance of taste and technicality appreciated by the Michelin and Gault & Millau guides which highlight the modernity of the dishes offered, awarding them 2 Toques in 2025 as well as the designation Table de chef.

Le Tertre in Saint-Émilion, a cozy and warm room where we love to feast

The cuisine is not the only star of the restaurant Le Tertre since the dining room also makes its little impression. Its stone frame and exposed beams give it an undeniable cachet, offering a warm atmosphere to this privileged space with a capacity of 28 places. As the summer season approaches, Catherine is delighted to open the restaurant's elitist terrace, revealing 3 charming, spaced and intimate tables of 2 set in a pleasant outdoor atmosphere decorated with flowers. These magnificent spaces are complemented by an incredible cellar dug into the monolithic stone, a unique and unusual room where more than 300 references of Saint-Émilion wine are stored , as well as wine gems from the southwest and France. Offered by the glass or by the bottle, these fruity nectars perfectly accompany the generous cuisine of chef Julien Elles, offering you a authentic tasting of local flavors. Experience a most intimate meal in this unexpected cellar, only 4 privileged people are invited to sit there to share an almost private moment of indulgence.

Love of the profession, that’s what defines Catherine and Julien Elles at the restaurant Le Tertre in Saint-Émilion.

Le Tertre – A Hidden Gem in Saint-Émilion Le Tertre was the first lunch spot on our visit to Saint-Émilion, and what a lovely start it was. The restaurant is charming, and the owner was just as warm and welcoming. The food here genuinely impressed me — not only was it delicious, but it had a level of complexity and creativity that you don’t often find. I honestly think this place deserves some kind of award. Entrées: • Poached and Grilled Duck Foie Gras with root vegetables, duck broth, and herbs • Gamberro Rosso Carpaccio with bisque, citrus, and Timut pepper Both starters were incredibly flavorful — fresh, vibrant, and full of personality. A perfect start to the meal. Mains: • Beef with red cabbage, raz el hanout, beetroot, roasted spelt, and hoisin sauce • Cod ravioli with mushrooms, spinach, and morel sauce Cheese: • A lovely selection of matured cheeses Dessert: • Warm dark chocolate mousse with almond, soft cookie, and New Caledonia vanilla ice cream Wines: • Sancerre Les Sens (Domaine de La Garenne, 2022 – Loire) • Château Clos Marsalette Blanc (Pessac-Léognan) • Château Ripeau (Saint-Émilion – red) Every dish felt thoughtfully crafted — familiar ingredients presented in unique ways, with great balance of flavor and texture. And before we left, the owner shared a sweet little tip: we could get a key from the tourist office to climb the tower and enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree view of Saint-Émilion. Such a thoughtful gesture that added to an already memorable experience. This place really made my day — definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!
