    • The Château de Castets-en-Dorthe, proudly perched above the confluence of the Garonne and the Canal, offers a breathtaking view. The current buildings date from the 16th century and rest on the foundations of a fortified castle. It was built in the 14th century by Raymond Guilhem de Goth, nephew of Pope Clement V, on November 15, 1314, after authorization from the King of England, Edward II. Numerous modifications were made at the end of the 16th century by Jean de Favas, to whom we owe the various triangular bastions facing the town.

During the Hundred Years' War, Du Guesclin recaptured the castle from the English. During the Wars of Religion, in 1585, the castle, inhabited by the Protestant Jean de Favas, was besieged by Marshal de Matignon. Henry of Navarre (the future Henry IV), accompanied by Sully, came to lift the siege and, to demonstrate his success, stayed there. In 1697, the seigneury was definitively acquired by Charles du Hamel, after whom the castle is named.

Since then, it has remained in the family.

Excellent welcome from the owners, whose family has been here for centuries. The ground floor of the castle and the 14th-century farmhouse are superb. A group of 87 people visited, and I recommend it to associations.

Magnificent castle, very warm welcome, and a good explanation of the history over the centuries. Bravo. We will be back.
