Arcachon: a beautiful seaside destination!

Ah, Arcachon ! The coast, the ocean, the seafood, the boats, the Dune du Pilat … Everything that makes you dream when you think about a future stay in the Gironde! Let's go for a little getaway with our backpack, our cap, and our water bottle! Are you coming with us?

A short tour of the city and the port in Arcachon

To begin our journey, we parked in Place Peynau, in Arcachon, near the Eyrac pier. The carousel was spinning, the children were having fun, and the setting was splendid. The Ferris wheel is also located in this square. A breathtaking view awaits you at the top!

Let's head towards the jetty where it's possible to take boat trips. Several fishermen are waiting for their catch and don't hesitate to strike up a conversation: "Are you on holiday? Do you know Arcachon? I've been fishing here every day since I was a kid! Do you want to try it?..." In short, you immediately feel right at home!

A lovely walk along the seafront in Arcachon

Once we've completed our seamanship training, let's walk back up the jetty together. It's very long. A beautiful horizon beckons, inviting us to the ends of the earth (well, to the end of the bay for now). The walkways are lined with flowers, very well laid out, and the pedestrian and cycling paths share the space equally. That's part of the charm of the Gironde region: its extensive cycle paths that allow you to explore the surrounding area for miles in complete safety.

We pass by the Palais des Congrès, ice cream parlors, restaurants, brasseries, and seafood bars. It all makes you hungry! It's lovely to sit on a bench and enjoy the sea air, watching the boats moored or out for a stroll.

Arcachon is a relaxing, calm and peaceful seaside town that only wants the best for you ;)

A trip to the market in Arcachon

With the sea air in our lungs, we head to the town center, specifically to the market halls where the market and the region's delicious produce await. Fruits, vegetables, cheeses, pastries, breads, clothing... there's everything. Stroll through the aisles, chat with the local producers who will be happy to let you taste their specialties, such as canelés or beautiful seasonal strawberries.

This market square is very pretty. Beautiful arcades surround it, along with charming bourgeois-style buildings, some with surprising decorations, and lovely shops. There's a noticeable contrast between the town and the beach, but the two complement each other perfectly.

Discovering the atmosphere of Arcachon

Arcachon is also its different districts bearing the name of the four seasons : you will find the villa Teresa listed as a Historical Monument in the winter town for example, the basilica Notre-Dame d'Arcachon in the summer town, the beautiful chapel of the Sailors or the Sainte-Cécile belvedere allowing you to have an unobstructed view of the Basin (and it's free! ).

Arcachon boasts a rich cultural and natural heritage. You'll never be bored strolling through its beautiful landscapes. They change with the seasons and the years, but the magic of the Arcachon Basin remains. Adults and children alike will find something to enjoy, as will gourmets, sports enthusiasts, and nature lovers.
