- At the mouth of the Gironde, Île Nouvelle is located at the level of the Citadel of Blaye. Over time, the two islands "Sans Pain" and "Bouchaud" have come together to form only one. Some still call it "Bouchaud Island" out of habit. The island was inhabited, then abandoned. Wild life has therefore gradually regained its rights. This preserved environment is classified as a “Sensitive Natural Area”. You can get there by boat and discover it thanks to its interpretive trail. The tourist office also organizes guided tours and activities there.
